Leo The Last film screening and end of residency display at the V&A Museum

After 6 months, my V&A residency is drawing to a close. It's been a busy, but wonderful time connecting the museum with a new housing development in North Kensington. As community artist, I've worked closely and drawn inspiration from the local residents and visitors to my studio. Here is a reminder of my engagements with vinyl, architects and housing issues: V&A blog. 
I hope to go out in style with two premeditated bangs.

Sunday 1st February, 10am  - Free screening of Leo The Last at the Gate Cinema, Notting Hill

"He couldn't change the world, but he changed his street." 

Leo The Last was directed by John Boorman in 1969 between his influential Hollywood films, Point Blank and Deliverance. It is wildly ambitious and experimental in tone fusing drama, comedy and political comment. The story concerns an aristocratic landlord who moves into a slum area of Notting Hill and becomes radicalised by his oppressed Afro-Caribbean residents. The film was made on Testerton Street prior to it’s redevelopment into the Lancaster West Estate. 

This is a rare screening of a 35mm print and is an 18 certificate. This event has been funded by the V&A Museum and a City Living, Local Life grant from RBKC.

Friday 6th February, 18.30 - 21.30 – Community Artist in Residence Private View at The Victoria & Albert Museum

In partnership with RIBA and supported by The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea  

You are cordially invited to the private view that celebrates the end of my V&A Community Artist residency.

This is on Friday 6th February from 18.30 – 21:30 at the Victoria & Albert Museum, in the lunchroom of the Learning Centre. The lunchroom is on level 3, adjacent to Galleries 107 and 102. Please do ask any Museum staff for directions if needed.

There will be a display of drawings, short films, music and ceramic art that explores history, housing, regeneration and social change in North Kensington, both created by myself and in collaboration with various community groups. There will a focus on the new housing development, More West and the Silchester and Lancaster West Estates. 

The display is available to view at the museum throughout the following weekend, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th February from 10.00 to 17:00.
